Two-Door Crate
One of the first steps in preparing for the arrival of your new puppy is purchasing a puppy crate. Here at Fernweh Schnauzers, we are big advocates for crate training, and selecting a proper crate is naturally a very important first step.
A 24″ or 30″ with a removable divider will provide appropriate space for your puppy all the way through its golden years.
Crate Cover
We love crate covers and they really do work! A crate cover is a great tool for creating a cozy and separate space for your new puppy. Bedtime, especially the first few nights can be hard but with the help of a cover the crate becomes more like a little cozy den. The cover also helps to block the view of family members walking around which can cause your puppy to want to join in and start wining.
Sound Machine
Just like the crate cover, a sound machine can help to create a wonderful sleeping environment for your bulldog. The sounds will help to drown out the noises of your home, which just like movement can keep your puppy from getting a good nights sleep. The sound machine is something I highly recommend to get through the first few nights. I use ours all the time!
Blankets
The only item we recommend in the crate while crate training is a fleece blanket. I love fleece because it washes and dry very easily. I would grab a few of these. At least two but three is best! When one is in the wash (which it will be while potty training) you have extras to use. You will want to leave the nice doggy bed in the living room while you potty train and use these in the crate. Trust me… you will thank me later!

Deer and Elk antler pieces are awesome for teething puppies (which starts around 4 months old). Antlers are super tough, honestly indestructible, and the best part is the don’t get gunky and soft like other “bones” do.
*Disclaimer: there are some dog blogs and vets that now warn against antler use as it has the potential to splinter. We have never had an issue with this and do not believe this breed is inclined to chew to the point of splintering the antler.
*we NEVER recommend rawhide, it can break into little pieces and cause choking
