Connecting the perfect miniature schnauzer puppy with your Idaho family!
Through extensive experience, we have refined our adoption process to emphasize compatibility between each miniature schnauzer puppy and their adoptive family. We understand that successful placements always begin with matching the right schnauzer to the right home.
1. Personal Interview – Miniature Schnauzer Puppy questionnaires provide helpful information, but genuine conversation via phone really helps us understand your needs. Expect to discuss daily routines, household dynamics, and what you’re looking for in a companion. Given your Idaho location, establishing strong communication and trust forms the foundation for finding your ideal mini schnauzer match.
2. Reservation – We require a $500 non-refundable deposit (please add a 4% processing fee if using credit/debit card) to secure your position on our wait list for the next miniature schnauzer puppy available or current puppy available.
3. Miniature Schnauzer Matching Process – Once your turn arrives on our waiting list, we begin the selection process. We’ll discuss each puppy’s characteristics* (details below), weighing the benefits and considerations of each available mini schnauzer puppy. While final selection remains with you, we provide comprehensive information and guidance throughout. Our goal is to share everything we know about each puppy so you can make the best choice for your Idaho household.
*Miniature Schnauzer Puppy Personality Assessment – To ensure proper matching between puppies and families, we must thoroughly understand each personality. We evaluate temperament through daily observation and interaction, noting both activity levels and confidence traits. This assessment process requires puppies to reach approximately 5 weeks of age before we can accurately determine their personalities. Some adopters request (and we decline) early selection at 1-2 weeks old. This premature approach often results in mismatches since the true miniature schnauzer personality hasn’t yet developed.
4. Mini Schnauzer Puppy Preparation and Travel Logistics – After matching you with your miniature schnauzer puppy, we’ll coordinate pickup or delivery timing and provide a comprehensive supply checklist for your new arrival. For our Idaho families, we’ll work through all logistics to determine whether personal pickup or our flight delivery service best suits your needs.
Your Fernweh puppy comes home with complete AKC registration documents, current health records including vaccinations and deworming, comprehensive veterinary documentation, and a thoughtful starter kit containing toys, quality puppy food, a detailed care guide, and a familiar-scented blanket from their litter.
Yes! Every puppy receives thorough veterinary examinations and stays current with all age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming protocols before joining your family.
Your puppy will have been introduced to crate basics and simple commands. However, miniature schnauzer puppies typically develop full housetraining readiness around 10-12 weeks of age, so continued training at home will be necessary.
Our puppies go home at 10 weeks of age. This extra time with their mother and siblings provides valuable socialization and developmental benefits that set them up for success.
Please arrange a veterinary appointment within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home. We recommend scheduling this visit before pickup or delivery day. Through our work with Idaho adopters over the years, we’ve compiled recommendations for veterinarians familiar with miniature schnauzers throughout your state.
Certainly! We have comprehensive nutritional recommendations available on our website’s nutrition page.

Over the years we have worked with quite a few Idaho based Miniature Schnauzer adopters. Here is a pool of information that we have gathered that might be helpful for future adopters.
Boise Area: Dr. Joel Davis, DVM – Hendricks Veterinary Hospital With nearly 30 years serving Boise pets, Dr. Davis leads a skilled team specializing in small animal care. His facility focuses on preventive medicine and early disease detection, making him particularly adept at managing hereditary conditions common in miniature schnauzers.
Why We Recommend: Our Boise miniature schnauzer families appreciate Dr. Davis’s thorough approach to wellness care. Multiple adopters have mentioned how his team takes time to explain breed-specific concerns like dental care and pancreatitis prevention. Families especially value the consistent care – many see the same vet tech at each visit who remembers their schnauzer by name.
Eastern Idaho: Dr. Ellen German, DVM – Animal Health Hospital, Boise Cornell University graduate who established her practice in 2003, Dr. German offers both traditional and homeopathic treatment options. Her integrated approach works well for miniature schnauzers who may have sensitivities to certain medications.
Why We Recommend: Several of our Idaho families drive considerable distances to see Dr. German because of her holistic approach to schnauzer health. One family credits her alternative treatments for resolving their mini schnauzer’s chronic skin issues when traditional methods hadn’t worked. Her Saturday hours accommodate working families.
Northern Idaho: Dr. Jennifer Powell, DVM – Companions Animal Hospital, Boise Owner of Companions Animal Hospital, Dr. Powell and her team pride themselves on comprehensive yet affordable veterinary care. The practice emphasizes building long-term relationships with both pets and their families.
Why We Recommend: Our northern Idaho adopters consistently mention the welcoming atmosphere and reasonable pricing. Dr. Powell has helped several miniature schnauzer puppies through their first year, providing detailed guidance on everything from altitude adjustment to seasonal allergy management common in Idaho’s varied climate.
Britta, Platinum Certified Trainer – Positive Pets Dog Training With over 14 years climbing the ranks at Positive Pets, Britta has trained hundreds of dogs using attention-reward based methods. Former handler for the Boise Hawks Bat Dog, she brings competition-level expertise to everyday pet training. Her work has been featured on Animal Planet and ESPN.
Why We Recommend: Our Idaho families love Britta’s ability to channel the miniature schnauzer’s intelligence into positive behaviors. One adopter shared how Britta helped their “stubborn schnauzer” become a therapy dog within six months. Her understanding of terrier motivation has transformed many “untrainable” schnauzers into well-mannered companions.
Taylor Wyllie, KPA Graduate – Scott’s School for Dogs A Karen Pryor Academy graduate and founder of the Boise Reactive Dog Owner group, Taylor specializes in positive reinforcement methods. She transformed her own anxious rescue dog, which led her to pursue professional certification in helping dogs with behavioral challenges.
Why We Recommend: Several miniature schnauzer families have worked with Taylor for reactive behavior common in terriers. One family mentioned their schnauzer went from barking at every dog to calmly passing them on walks. Her online training options work perfectly for Idaho’s rural families who can’t always make it to Boise.
Boise’s Urban Trail System
Small Dog-Friendly Parks
Idaho Adventure Trails
Seasonal Idaho Activities
Idaho Schnauzer Social Scene
Why Our Families Love This: Our adopters have built strong friendships through these activities. One group of schnauzer families now organizes monthly brewery meetups where their dogs play while the humans socialize.
Special Idaho Considerations: Remember that Idaho’s elevation changes can affect small dogs – allow your miniature schnauzer time to adjust when traveling between valleys and mountains. Idaho’s dry climate, especially in winter, may require coat conditioning and paw balm. Many of our families keep an “adventure kit” in their car with water, first aid supplies, and booties for unexpected weather changes common in Idaho!
