What We Offer

Adoption Process For Our Colorado Adopters

Matching the right miniature schnauzer puppy with your family!

After years of working with Colorado families, we’ve refined our adoption process to ensure each miniature schnauzer puppy finds their ideal home. We know that successful placements begin with understanding both the puppy’s temperament and your specific lifestyle.

Our Adoption Process Steps:

1. Personal Consultation – While miniature schnauzer puppy applications provide basic information, nothing replaces a genuine phone conversation. We’ll discuss your daily routine, home environment, other pets, and what you’re looking for in a schnauzer companion. Given your Colorado location, establishing strong communication and trust is crucial for finding your perfect mini schnauzer match.

2. Reservation Deposit – A $500 non-refundable deposit (please include 4% processing fee for card payments) secures your position on our waitlist for the next available miniature schnauzer puppy or current litter.

3. Mini Schnauzer Matching – When your turn arrives on our waitlist, we begin the careful selection process. We’ll discuss each puppy’s unique traits* (details below), examining the advantages and considerations of each available miniature schnauzer. While you make the final choice, we provide comprehensive guidance to ensure an informed decision. Our role is to share everything we know about each puppy so you can select the best match for your Colorado home.

*Miniature Schnauzer Temperament Assessment – To successfully match puppies with families, we must thoroughly understand each personality. We evaluate temperament through extensive daily interaction, observing energy levels and confidence traits. This assessment requires puppies to reach approximately 5 weeks old before we can accurately determine their personalities. Some families request puppy selection at 1-2 weeks old, which we discourage. Early selection often leads to mismatches since the puppy’s true miniature schnauzer personality hasn’t emerged yet.

4. Miniature Schnauzer Puppy Preparation and Travel Planning – After matching you with your ideal miniature schnauzer puppy, we’ll coordinate pickup or delivery dates and provide a comprehensive supply checklist for your new arrival. For our Colorado families, we’ll discuss logistics thoroughly to determine whether personal pickup or our flight delivery service works best for your situation.

Colorado Specific Advice From An Experienced Schnauzer Breeder

Over the years we have worked with quite a few Colorado based Miniature Schnauzer adopters. Here is a pool of information that we have gathered that might be helpful for future adopters.

Denver Metro Area: Dr. Beth Miles, DVM – Denver Animal Hospital A Florida native who now calls Colorado home, Dr. Miles brings specialized knowledge in small breed care and altitude adjustment for pets. She completed her DVM at University of Florida and has additional training in managing respiratory concerns common in brachycephalic and small breeds adjusting to Colorado’s elevation.

Why We Recommend: Our Denver miniature schnauzer families love Dr. Miles’ proactive approach to altitude acclimation. She helped several of our puppies adjust smoothly to the mile-high city, providing detailed guidance on exercise limitations during the first few weeks. Our families especially appreciate her Saturday hours and personal follow-up calls.

Boulder Area: Dr. Erin Casey, DVM – Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital Colorado State University graduate with certification in veterinary acupuncture, Dr. Casey combines traditional and holistic approaches perfect for active Colorado schnauzers. Her expertise in sports medicine helps keep adventure-loving mini schnauzers in peak condition.

Why We Recommend: Our Boulder-area families rave about Dr. Casey’s understanding of the active Colorado lifestyle. She’s helped numerous miniature schnauzer puppies build endurance safely for outdoor adventures. One family credits her acupuncture treatments for keeping their senior schnauzer hiking well into his golden years.

Colorado Springs: Dr. Marie Janson, DVM – Mountain Star Veterinary Specialists Board-certified in oncology with additional certification in veterinary acupuncture, Dr. Janson offers integrative care combining conventional and holistic approaches. Her focus on preventive care aligns perfectly with Colorado’s health-conscious culture.

Why We Recommend: Our Colorado Springs families appreciate Dr. Janson’s whole-dog approach to wellness. She’s particularly knowledgeable about managing the skin conditions that can flare up in Colorado’s dry climate. Several adopters mentioned how she helped them develop customized nutrition plans to keep their miniature schnauzer’s coat healthy despite low humidity.

Bernadette Pflug, CPDT – BlackPaw Dog Training A certified professional dog trainer with search and rescue experience, Bernadette understands working with intelligent, independent breeds. Her background training German Shepherds for rescue work translates perfectly to channeling schnauzer energy and intelligence. Why We Recommend: Our Colorado families love Bernadette’s balanced approach that respects the schnauzer personality. One family shared how she transformed their “wild child” into a reliable hiking companion who comes when called, even with marmot distractions! Her understanding of terrier independence has helped many of our miniature schnauzer families achieve off-leash reliability on trails.

Emily Wolf, KPA-CTP, CPDT-KA – Brilliant Pup Training Serving Boulder and surrounding areas, Emily specializes in positive reinforcement techniques perfect for smart, sometimes stubborn miniature schnauzers. Her focus on building confidence helps small dogs navigate Colorado’s big outdoors. Why We Recommend: Our families appreciate Emily’s patience with the famous schnauzer “selective hearing.” She’s helped numerous mini schnauzer puppies overcome their natural wariness of larger dogs common on Colorado trails. One adopter mentioned their schnauzer went from hiding behind their legs to confidently greeting trail friends after working with Emily.

Special Colorado Considerations: Remember that miniature schnauzers need time to adjust to altitude – limit exercise for the first 2-3 weeks after bringing your puppy home. Colorado’s dry climate requires extra attention to keeping their skin and coat moisturized. Many of our families use humidifiers and supplement with fish oil. Don’t forget the sunscreen on those pink schnauzer ears during summer adventures!
