White Miniature Schnauzer Puppy – The White Miniature Schnauzer carries a unique color structure made possible by its recessive gene characteristics. There has been a significant amount of controversy surrounding the White Miniature Schnauzer from the time of the breed’s origin. The earliest acknowledgement of the Miniature Schnauzer Breed was in the 1888 breed standard description published by the Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub in Germany. The desire for the Miniature Schnauzer stemmed from the needs amongst German farmers for a stout, smaller herding and ratting dog to help around the farm. The Standard Schnauzer was selected and the “bred down” to quite possibly one or two smaller breeds (many experts believe the miniature poodle and/or the Affenpinscher were used in this process).
Through this downsizing process, two recessive color structures were introduced to the new breed: white and black and silver. While the two newly formed colors were introduced by the same process, they were viewed far differently by the accompanied kennel clubs that shepherded the breed’s standard. Black and Silver Miniature Schnauzers were quickly accepted as a desirable color (along with black and salt and pepper) while the White Miniature Schnauzer was rejected. As time progressed, kennel clubs around the world began to slowly understand recessive genetics and realized the White Schnauzer’s legitimacy to the Miniature Schnauzer breed.
Currently, White Miniature Schnauzers are accepted in all FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) is an international federation of kennel clubs). However, continuing the controversy, Canada, USA, UK, and South Africa recognize the White Miniature Schnauzer as purebred but reject its entry into conformation competitions. Sadly, this outdated view and misunderstanding of both science and history of the Schnauzer breed still resides within U.S. kennel clubs. In this case tradition trumps logic and the White Schnauzer remains on the outside looking in. While the AKC will recognize a White Schauzer Puppy as pure and registerable, it is not allowed to compete in AKC show events.
Here at Fernweh Schnauzers, we appreciate the rich history the White Miniature Schnauzer adds to the Miniature Schnauzer’s breed story. We recognize that the White color structure originated with the creation of the Miniature Schnauzer breed and should not be discounted in any way. This differentiation is really a separation in philosophy of the type of value that dogs and the Schnauzer breed in particular bring to current society. The AKC (and kennel clubs around the world) create rules in an attempt to elevate or discount the value of certain variations within the breed. Often these breed standards have nothing to do with the health of the breed or the improvement of personality, rather frivolous rules that grown men and women can argue and compete around. At our core, our value system begins and ends with our adopters and the well being of our Miniature Schnauzers. As Miniature Schnauzer breeders, we will continue to support adopters in search of a White Schnauzer Puppy for Sale and promote what this color structure brings to the Miniature Schnauzer breed.

Are White Schnauzers Rare?
Yes, technically White Schnauzers are somewhat rare. White Schnauzers carry a recessive gene e/e that actually overlays or masks the dog’s original color such as black or salt and pepper coat. All White Schnauzer are actually a different color with a masking gene. Because the e/e gene is recessive the probability of a White Schnauzer is lower than a color like Salt and Pepper thus making them slightly rare. Additionally, if you were to breed two White Schnauzers the only statistical genetic option is for the entire litter to be ALL White as well! As White Miniature Schnauzer breeders, we always appreciate when we produce a White Miniature Schnauzer because they are a little rare.
Do White Schnauzers have specific health problems?
No, fortunately the White gene e/e is not associated with connecting hereditary issues. White Schnauzers do not suffer from excessive health issues and would carry similar health probabilities as mainstream Schnauzer colors such as salt and pepper.
Can Schnauzers be all White?
Technically, a White Schnauzer is simply a mask overlaying another coat color, ie Salt and Pepper. The gene e/e dilutes the original coat color to produce a white coat. An actual pure All White Schnauzer only occurs if you breed two recessive e/e White Schnauzers which will only produce ALL White offspring.
